Bass News for November 2025

...work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. ~Philippians 2:12-13

Our precious member, Sallie Mulkey, went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2025. Please continue to pray for comfort for Lee and all of her family.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. ~Psalm 116:15

Happy Deeply Rooted Month

Join us for Deeply Rooted 2025 at Shepherd's Rock Bible Church on November 7-8, as we look at the doctrine of Sanctification. This conference is for your benefit, Bass Chapel, and for God's glory. Remember the pre-conference concert with Kenny & Claire on Thursday, 11/6.

Join us for Lord's Day worship at 11am and 6pm, Sunday School at 10am, and Wednesdays at 6pm. Take advantage of every opportunity to gather with the saints to worship our thrice holy God. Pastor Dave is leading us through John during worship and First John during Sunday School and Wednesdays.

As Justin fills the pulpit, we will be moving along through the book of Judges.

We are grateful for the new heat pump.

Thanks to Tracy for working up some new hymns and some old hymns that are new to Bass, as we incorporate more from Hymns of Grace.

Spurgeon’s Catechism Questions for November

  • Week of 11/2/25

    • Q72

    • How is the Word of God used to achieve salvation?

    • The Spirit of God makes the reading, and especially the preaching of the Word of God, an effective means of convincing and converting sinners, and building them up in holiness and joy, through faith to salvation.

  • Week of 11/9/25

    • Q73

    • How is the Word of God to be read and heard to achieve salvation?

    • For the Word of God to achieve salvation, we must read and listen to it with commitment, preparation, and prayer, receive it with faith and love, store it up in our hearts, and practice it in our lives.

  • Week of 11/16/25

    • Q74

    • How do baptism and the Lord's Supper become effective instruments of grace?

    • Baptism and the Lord's Supper become effective instruments of grace, not from any virtue in them, or in the person who administers them, but only by the blessing of Christ, and the working of the Spirit in those who receive them by faith.

  • Week of 11/23/25

    • Q75

    • What is baptism?

    • Baptism is an ordinance of the New Testament, established by Jesus Christ, as a sign to the person baptized of their relationship to Christ, in His death, burial, and resurrection, of their being grafted into Him, of forgiveness of sins, and of their giving themselves to God through Jesus Christ, to live and walk in newness of life.

  • Week of 11/30/25

    • Q76

    • Who may be baptized?

    • Baptism is for all those who actually proclaim repentance toward God, and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and to no one else.

November Confession Reading: We have begun reading through our confession, the Second London Baptist Confession, as part of Sunday evening Worship.

  • 11/2/25: 2.2

God has all life, glory, goodness, and blessedness in and of himself; he alone is all-sufficient in himself. He does not need any creature he has made nor does he derive any glory from them. Instead, he demonstrates his own glory in them, by them, to them, and upon them. He alone is the source of all being, and everything is from him, through him, and to him. He has absolute sovereign rule over all creatures, to act through them, for them, or upon them as he pleases. In his sight everything is open and visible. His knowledge is infinite and infallible. It does not depend upon any creature, so for him nothing is contingent or uncertain. He is absolutely holy in all his plans, in all his works, and in all his commands. Angels and human beings owe to him all the worship, service, or obedience that creatures owe to the Creator and whatever else he is pleased to require of them.

  • 11/9/25: 2.3

This divine and infinite Being consists of three real persons, the Father, the Word or Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three have the same substance, power, and eternity, each having the whole divine essence without this essence being divided. The Father is not derived from anyone, neither begotten nor proceeding. The Son is eternally begotten of the Father. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. All three are infinite and without beginning and are therefore only one God, who is not to be divided in nature and being. Yet these three are distinguished by several distinctive characteristics and personal relations. This truth of the Trinity is the foundation of all of our fellowship with God and of our comforting dependence on him.

  • 11/16/25: 3.1

From all eternity God decreed everything that occurs, without reference to anything outside himself. He did this by the perfectly wise and holy counsel of his own will, freely and unchangeably. Yet God did this in such a way that he is neither the author of sin nor has fellowship with any in their sin. This decree does not violate the will of the creature or take away the free working or contingency of second causes. On the contrary, these are established by God’s decree. In this decree God’s wisdom is displayed in directing all things, and his power and faithfulness are demonstrated in accomplishing his decree.

  • 11/23/25: 3.2
